The Colonel's Fund - opening launch - 21 February 2008
The Colonel's Fund opening event, held at the Guildhall in the City of London, was enjoyed by all, including the Colonel himself.
The presentation from the Commanding Officer brought home the realities which the 1st Battalion faced last year in Afghanistan and what the human cost was. The audience was shocked, humbled and moved in equal measure.
Many of the guests, including family members of those wounded and killed, were presented to the Colonel. There was also the opportunity for representatives from the Association Branches and the City of London to speak to Grenadiers who had been in Afghanistan, including many of the injured.
The evening ended outside in the Courtyard with the Regimental Band beating Retreat.
The evening succeeded in heightening awareness of the Fund as well as raising a substantial sum.
