THE GRENADIER GUARDS 2009 CALENDAR

Following the success of a 2008 calendar a new 2009 version has been designed.

The Grenadier Guards 2008 Calendar provides, through high quality photography and explanatory text, an overview of the Regiment and the roles that we perform, and our operational activities across the world. The major benefit to The Grenadier Guards is that a percentage of the proceeds from the sale of the calendar are given back to us as a donation to the Colonel's Fund, therefore, the more we can sell through the Regiment, the bigger the donation will be next year.

The calendar is in full colour, in A3 format and printed on high quality paper.
Each calendar is priced at £9.99 plus Postage and Packing.   Click image for ordering details

An Active Service - Richard Dorney
The Story of a Soldier's Life in the Grenadier Guards & SAS 1935-58

An Active Service traces the story of a young Sid Dowland from civilian life into the tough environment of the Guards Depot in the 1930s and then on to a Guards Service Battalion in London and pre-war Egypt. The outbreak of war finds Sid taking part in the retreat to Dunkirk and then service in North Africa before volunteering for the SAS. Captured after a disastrous raid in Sardinia, he escapes from the Prisoner of War camp in Italy before making it hack to England. The end of the war does not signal peace, as the Guards are sent into action in Palestine and subsequently to the jungles of Malaya, where Sid finds that his SAS experience is in great demand.

This book is a tale of adventure, but will be of interest to anyone studying the Second World War or the early days of the SAS. Most of the historical information is previously unpublished, and much of it is drawn from SAS operation reports in the National Archives and from the war diaries of the Grenadier Guards. The story is accompanied by many previously unseen photographs from private collections, and is brought to life by a series of high quality and accurate drawings depicting the uniforms of the day.

This is an enjoyable human story, but is also an accurate account of military life during the war 'ears, which will be of interest to anyone researching or studying this period.

Fascinating personal story of a member of the Grenadier Guards and SAS, Covering pre-WWII service as a Regular, Dunkirk, the early days of the SAS, and post-war Palestine and Malaya.

Contains much previously unpublished information from archives and war dairies, as well as Sid's account of the early days of the SAS, and service with the Grenadier Guards.

Lively text supplemented by a number of interesting photos and superb drawings by artist Sean Bolan.

The British Grenadiers
350 Years of the First Regiment of Foot Guards 1656-2006
Henry Hanning

The Grenadier Guards celebrate their 350th anniversary in 2006. Raised in Bruges by Charles II in exile, it was after his restoration in 1660 that their position as the First Regiment of Foot Guards, with a special attachment to the person of the Sovereign, was firmly established. Since that time they have distinguished themselves consistemtly. Notably two batalions played a decicive role at Waterloo as a result of which the First Guards were granted the unique accolade of being made an entire regiment of Grenadiers - the picked men of infantry. Further triumphs followed in the Crimea, where their steadfastness and discipline were conspicuous. These attributes were again in evidence throughout the prolonged carnage of The Great War. The Second World war brought fresh challenges, to which the Grenadiers responded with distinction, from the retreat to Dunkirk, through North Africa and Italy, to North western Europe. From 1945 up to the present day, Grenadiers have been engaged in numerous conflicts both close to home and far afield.
The Regiment has consistemtly proved that an unshrinking belief in strong traditional values is no bar to embracing change. Indeed this progressive ability is well demonstrated by the style of this new regimental history. A highly informative text is enhanced with copious colour illustrations, maps and diagrams. Personality profiles of sixty members of the Regiment, famous, representative or peculiar, together with explanations of customs and oddities, contribute to making The British Grenadiers a unique and entertaining record.
